The lap joint stub end consists of two main components: the stub end and the lap joint flange.
1 Stub End:The stub end is a short length of pipe with one end machined to match the outer diameter of a certain pipe size, while the other end has a slightly larger diameter that allows it to slide over the pipe. This allows for easy alignment and connection with the pipe. The stub end does not have a flange on its end; instead, it has a weld bevel that allows it to be Butt-welded to the pipe.
2 Lap Joint Flange:The lap joint flange is a separate component that is attached to the end of the stub end. It consists of a flat, circular plate with bolt holes around its circumference. This flange is not welded to the pipe but rather to the stub end, short type, allowing for rotational movement and easy alignment during assembly. The lap joint flange is then bolted to another flange (typically a raised face flange or a flat face flange) of a different material or size.
However, it's important to note that lap joint connections are not as strong as fully welded connections. They are generally used in low-pressure and non-critical applications where the ease of maintenance and alignment outweighs the need for a fully welded joint. When selecting a joint type, factors like system pressure, temperature, material compatibility, and maintenance requirements should all be considered.

A Stub End fitting is a short length of pipe with one flared end and the other end needing to be welded to the pipe of the same size.
