What are buttweld pipe fittings?

Buttweld (butt-weld) fittings are factory-made wrought fittings with beveled ends that join to pipe by full-penetration welding. Unlike socket-weld or threaded forged fittings, the weld becomes part of the pressure boundary and gives a smooth bore for flow.
