Savoy Piping Inc. supplies alloy steel EFW pipes to ASTM A691 / ASME SA691 — plate-welded chrome moly pipe for high-pressure elevated-temperature service in diameters where seamless A335 supply is impractical.
Ordering is incomplete without both grade (chemistry) and class (heat treatment, radiography and pressure-test combination), plus OD, wall, ends and documentation.
Common grades: 1-1/4CR, 2-1/4CR, 5CR, 9CR, 91, 92. Seamless twin family: A335 / A213 chrome moly.
EFW (electric-fusion-welded) alloy pipe is fabricated from pressure-vessel-quality plate with filler metal added. A691/SA691 is the usual chrome moly specification for large-OD elevated-temperature service. It is not a drop-in for seamless A335 without design review.
Grade defines plate chemistry (for example 2-1/4CR or 91). Class defines manufacturing heat treatment, whether the weld is radiographed, and whether the pipe is pressure tested. Always write both on the PO.

Carbon and Alloy Steel Pipe Electric Fusion Welded for High Pressure Service at High Temperature
This specification covers Stainless Steel pipe, electric-fusion-welded with filler metal added, fabricanted from pressure-vessel quality plate of any of service analyses and strength levels and suitable for high-pressure service at moderate temperatures. Heat treatment may or may not be required to attain the desired properties or to comply with applicable code requirements. Supplementary requirements are provided for use when additional testing or examination is desired. The specification nominally covers pipe 16 in. (405 mm) in outside diameter or larger with wall thicknesses up to 3 in. (75 mm), inclusive. Pipe having other dimensions may be furnished provided it complies with all other requirements of this specification.Several grades and classes of pipe are provided. Grade designates the type of plate used.
