What are forged fittings?

Forged fittings are small-bore pipe fittings produced from forged steel or alloy stock, then machined to socket weld (SW) or threaded (screwed) ends. They join pipe, valves and instrumentation on lines where buttweld fittings are oversized or welding access is limited. Most industrial packages follow ASME B16.11 for dimensions and pressure–temperature ratings, with ASTM/ASME material specs for chemistry and mechanicals.

Standards that define the package

Dimensional control is usually ASME B16.11 (forged fittings, socket-welding and threaded) or BS 3799. Material is ordered to the ASTM forging specification that matches the pipe:

Typical supply covers NPS 1/8" to 4" (project-dependent) in ASME Classes 2000, 3000, 6000 and 9000. Class must align with pipe schedule and design pressure.
