Socket Weld Forged Fittings — ASME B16.11

Savoy Piping Inc. manufactures and supplies socket weld forged fittings for small-bore process and utility piping. Dimensions and pressure classes follow ASME B16.11 (and MSS SP-79 / SP-83 / SP-95 where applicable), with ASTM/ASME forging grades for chemistry and mechanicals.

Related: Forged fittings hub · Class 3000 · Class 6000 · Class 9000 · Socket weld · Threaded.

What is this class / end type?

Socket weld (SW) forged fittings have a recessed socket that accepts the pipe; a fillet weld completes the joint. They are the preferred permanent end type for high-integrity small-bore ASME B16.11 piping (typically NPS 2 and smaller).

Selection guidance

Choose socket weld for permanent leak-tight joints. Use threaded ends when welding is not preferred. Confirm Class 3000 / 6000 / 9000, NPS and material grade on the PO.

What to put on the PO

Include material grade / ASTM class, end type (socket weld or threaded), fitting form, size, pressure class, quantity, destination, and documentation (EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2, PMI, NACE, TPI). Email sales@savoypipinginc.com.

Frequently asked questions

What are Socket Weld Forged Fittings?

Socket Weld Forged Fittings are forged small-bore fittings supplied to ASME B16.11. Confirm size, end type, pressure class and material grade against the piping class.

Which standards apply?

Dimensional: ASME B16.11 for most forged fittings; MSS SP-79 / SP-83 / SP-95 where applicable. Threads: ASME B1.20.1 (NPT). Material follows the ASTM forging spec that matches the pipe.

Class 3000 vs 6000 vs 9000 — which do I need?

Class 3000 is the most common process class. Class 6000 is for higher pressure. Class 9000 is for severe / thick-wall duty. The piping class and design pressure decide — do not substitute classes without engineering approval.

What should be on the purchase order?

Material grade / ASTM class, end type, fitting form, size, pressure class, quantity, destination, and documentation (EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2, PMI, NACE, TPI if required). Email sales@savoypipinginc.com.
