Savoy Piping Inc. supplies ASTM A691 electric-fusion-welded (EFW) chrome moly pipe fabricated from pressure-vessel-quality plate for high-pressure service at elevated temperatures — especially in large diameters where seamless chrome moly is impractical.
A691 is ordered by grade (plate chemistry) and class (heat treatment + radiography + pressure-test combination). That class detail is what keeps inspection packages clean; a grade alone is not enough on a serious PO.
Grades we cover: 1-1/4CR (~P11), 2-1/4CR (~P22), 5CR (~P5), 9CR (~P9), and 91, 92 (CSEF modified 9Cr). Companion ASME page: ASME SA691.

ASTM A691 covers carbon and alloy steel pipe, electric-fusion-welded with filler metal added, fabricated from pressure-vessel-quality plate and suitable for high-pressure service at elevated temperatures. The specification nominally addresses larger pipe (commonly 16 in. OD and above) with substantial wall thickness, though other dimensions may be furnished when all requirements are met.
Grade designates the plate analysis (for example 1-1/4CR, 2-1/4CR, 5CR, 9CR, 91). Class designates manufacturing heat treatment, whether the longitudinal weld is radiographically examined, and whether the pipe is pressure tested. Buyers should state both clearly.
A691 is the large-diameter EFW route that complements seamless ASTM A335 chrome moly pipe and ASTM A213 tubes in complete Cr-Mo systems.
Use 1-1/4CR for intermediate Cr-Mo duty (~P11). Use 2-1/4CR for hotter ~P22 service. Use 5CR / 9CR for higher-chromium process/refinery duty. Use 91 when CSEF modified 9Cr is required. Always confirm plate specification, class and welding/PWHT requirements with the project engineer.

B 9CR steel is an air-hardenable steel, at times retaining down to near atmospheric temperature. Good practice is to allow the steel to cool to 15 F or Lower before subjecting the steel to a tempering treatment or post-weld heat treatment.
ASTM A691 is the specification for electric-fusion-welded carbon and alloy steel pipe made from pressure-vessel-quality plate for high-pressure service at elevated temperatures, commonly used in large diameters.
Grade identifies the plate chemistry (for example 2-1/4CR or 91). Class identifies heat treatment during manufacture, whether the weld is radiographed, and whether the pipe is pressure tested.
Use A335 for seamless chrome moly pipe. Use A691 when the design requires EFW plate-welded pipe — typically larger OD / fabrication packages. Product forms are not interchangeable without approval.
We supply ASTM A691 / ASME SA691 in Grades 1-1/4CR, 2-1/4CR, 5CR, 9CR and 91, with documentation and inspection options aligned to the purchase order.
We supply this product for domestic and export projects with MTC (EN 10204 3.1 standard; 3.2 / TPI on request). Include destination, Incoterms and inspection needs on the RFQ.
