Copper Nickel Seamless Pipes and Tubes
Copper-nickel alloys comprise 2 to 30% nickel and have high oxidation resistance and stress corrosion cracking resistance. Their high oxidation resistance is seen in moist air and steam. These alloys are thermally stable and possess moderate strength even when the temperature is high. The corrosion resistance and strength of these alloys are improved by the addition of manganese, iron, niobium, and or chromium. Copper nickel alloys also have good fabricability and high inherent resistance to biofouling.
The soluble nature of nickel in copper provides the copper nickel alloys with single phase alpha structures. The alpha dendrites in the cast structures contain a large amount of nickel starting from the center up to the edge of the dendrite. A large quantity of nickel is also present in interdendritic regions. The dendrite structure is broken by mechanical treatments. The alloying elements do not get homogenized even by repeated thermal and mechanical treatments.
Copper nickel alloys are of two types that include 70/30 and 90/10. The 70/30 copper nickel alloys have great resistance to sea water-related corrosion due to the presence of significant amounts of manganese and iron.

Standard Specification for Copper and Copper-Alloy Seamless Condenser Tubes and Ferrule Stock
This specification establishes the requirements for seamless tube and ferrule stock of copper and various copper alloys of a specified range of diameters, for use in surface condensers, evaporators, and heat exchangers. The specified coppers and copper alloys are UNS No. C10100, C10200, C10300, C10800, C12000, C12200, C14200, C19200, C23000, C28000, C44300, C44400, C44500, C60800, C61300, C61400, C68700, C70400, C70600, C70620, C71000, C71500, C71520, C71640, and C72200. The product shall be produced by processes such as casting, extrusion, drawing, annealing, straightening, trimming, and other processes which may produce a seamless tube in the specified condition. The coppers and copper alloys shall be specifically furnished in any one of the following tempers: annealed, light-drawn, hard-drawn, or hard drawn and end annealed. Tubes for ferrule stock shall be annealed sufficiently to be fully crystallized. Some tubes are suggested to be subjected to a stress-relieving thermal treatment subsequent to straightening. The products shall be subjected to expansion, flattening, and residual stress tests. The tensile and expansion requirements for the products are specified in accordance with the temper designation. The products shall also be subjected to mercurous nitrate, ammonia vapor, Eddy-current, hydrostatic, and pneumatic tests.

Standard Specification for Seamless Copper-Nickel Pipe and Tube
This specification covers the requirements for seamless UNS C70400, C70600, C71000, C71500, C71520, and C72200 copper-nickel Pipes and Tubes in straight lengths suitable for engineering applications. UNS C70620 and C71520 copper alloys are intended for products that are to be welded subsequently. Each product should be manufactured from cast billets by hot extrusion or piercing and then subjected to cold working and annealing. The standard tempers for the products in this specification are soft annealed (O60), light drawn (H55), hard drawn (H80), and hard drawn and end annealed (HE80). Pipe and tube tensile properties, Rockwell hardness, and test performance should conform to the values specified herein. Performance requirements include those from expansion, flattening, and eddy Current tests.
1.1 This specification establishes the requirements for seamless copper-nickel pipe and tube in straight lengths, suitable for general engineering purposes. The alloys involved are copper alloys UNS Nos. C70400, C70600, C70620, C71000, C71500, C71520, and C72200.
1.1.1 Copper alloys UNS Nos. C70620 and C71520 are intended for product that will be subsequently welded.
