Savoy Piping Inc. supplies ASTM A106 Grade C (ASME SA106 Gr C) seamless carbon steel pipe when designs need more strength than Grade B for high-temperature pressure piping.
Typical strength: tensile min 70 ksi (485 MPa), yield min 40 ksi (275 MPa). Carbon max 0.35%, manganese 0.29–1.06%, silicon min 0.10%.

Grade C sits above Grade B in the A106 strength ladder. Same seamless high-temperature scope, higher minimum tensile and yield — chosen when wall or design stress needs the extra capacity and the PO explicitly calls Grade C.

Do not “upgrade” B to C (or the reverse) without engineering approval. Check tensile/yield, carbon max, weld procedure qualification and any IBR / NACE extras on the enquiry.

Standard Specification for Seamless Carbon Steel Pipe for High-Temperature Service
ASTM A106 pipe (also covered in ASME specifications as S/A 106) is the standard specification for seamless Carbon Steel Pipe and Steel Productsfor high-temperature service. Most common uses are in refineries and plants when gasses or fluids are transported at High Temperature and pressures. Federal Stainless Steel Supply is a world leader in the supply of A106 / SA 106 pipe and stocks a full range of grades B/C in a size rage of NPS 1/8" to NPS 48", with nominal (average) wall thickness as given in ANSI B36.10. Pipe having other dimensions may be furnished provided such pipe complies with all other requirements of this specification*. Pipe ordered under this specification shall be suitable for bending, for flanging, for welding, and for similar forming operations. A full range of A106 stock is available in Schedules 10 through 160, STD, XS, XXS. Unscheduled wall thicknesses available up to 4 inches.

ASTM A106 Seamless Pressure Pipe (also known as ASME SA106 pipe) covers seamless carbon steel and Corten Steel nominal wall pipe for high-temperature service. Suitable for bending, flanging and similar forming operations. NPS 1-1/2″ and under may be either hot finished or cold drawn. NPS 2″ and larger shall be hot finished unless otherwise specified.

Permissible Variations in Wall Thickness for ASTM A106 grade C Pipes
The minimum wall thickness at any point shall not be more than 12.5% under the nominal wall thickness specified.
Permissible Variations in Weights per Foot for ASTM A106 grade C Pipes
Weight of any length shall not vary more than 10% over and 3.5% under that specified. NOTE — NPS 4 and smaller — weighed in lots. Larger sizes shall be weighed separately by length.

Inspection test pressures produce a stress in the pipe wall equal to 60% of specified minimum yield strength (SMYS) at room temperature. Maximum Pressures are not to exceed 2500 psi for NPS3 and must stay under 2800 psi for the larger sizes. Pressure is maintained for not less than 5 seconds.
Tensile Test — NPS 8 and larger — either transverse or longitudinal acceptable Smaller than NPS 8 — weighed in lots. Larger sizes — by length. Flattening Test — NPS 2-1/2 and larger. Bending Test (Cold) — NPS 2 and under.

Use Grade C when the design needs higher tensile/yield than Grade B — Grade C requires min 70 ksi (485 MPa) tensile and 40 ksi (275 MPa) yield versus 60/35 ksi for Grade B. Confirm the purchase order and code allow Grade C.
