A333 Grade 6 / ASME SA333 Low-Temperature Pipe

LTCS seamless pipe — impact tested to -50°F (-45°C)

ASTM A333 Grade 6 ASME SA333 LTCS seamless pipe

Savoy Piping Inc. supplies ASTM A333 Grade 6 (ASME SA333 Gr 6) — the workhorse low-temperature carbon steel pipe for cold process, gas and hydrocarbon piping that needs notch toughness.

Typical strength: tensile min 60 ksi (415 MPa), yield min 35 ksi (240 MPa). Carbon max 0.30%, manganese 0.29–1.06%, silicon min 0.10%. Impact temperature for Grade 6 is -50°F (-45°C).

Related: A333 Grade 3, A106 Grade B, Carbon Steel Hub.

What is ASTM A333 Grade 6?

Grade 6 is the most frequently ordered A333 grade for low-temperature service. Pipe is heat-treated to control microstructure and impact-tested so it retains toughness at the specified low temperature — unlike standard high-temp carbon grades.

Typical applications

  • Low-temperature process and utility piping
  • Gas processing, LPG and cold hydrocarbon lines
  • Offshore / cold-climate facilities with MDMT around -45°C
  • Projects specifying LTCS SA333 Gr 6 with Charpy MTCs

How buyers should order

State grade, seamless/welded construction, OD/wall, heat-treatment condition, impact test temperature and specimen orientation, plus any NACE / coating extras. Heavier walls can limit low-temp impact capability — confirm size availability early.

ASTM A333 Grade 6 Pipes

Standard Specification for Seamless and Welded Steel Pipe for Low-Temperature Service and Other Applications with Required Notch Toughness

ASTM A333 (ASME S/A-333) Pipe grades permit low temperature service. This specification covers nominal (average) walled pipe almost exclusively in seamless. Several grades of ferritic steel are included. Some product sizes may not be available under this specification because heavier wall thicknesses have an adverse effect on low-temperature impact properties. A333 pipe is furnished to nine different grades designated by numbers 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, & 11. Discussed herein are Grades 1, 3 and 6.

Savoy Piping Inc. stocks a full range of A333 Grade 6 seamless Carbon Steel Pipe.

Frequently asked questions — ASTM A333 Grade 6

What is ASTM A333 Grade 6 used for?

A333 Grade 6 is the most common low-temperature carbon steel (LTCS) pipe grade, used where notch toughness is required — typically impact tested at -50°F (-45°C) for cold process and hydrocarbon service.

Can I use A106 Grade B instead of A333 Grade 6?

Not for low-temperature service that requires impact testing. A106 is a high-temperature seamless standard without A333 notch-toughness requirements. Follow the PO grade and MDMT.

A333 Grade 6 vs Grade 3?

Grade 6 is standard LTCS (~-50°F). Grade 3 is a nickel grade for much colder service (~-150°F). Pick by design minimum temperature, not price alone.

Do you supply SA333 Grade 6 with impact certificates?

Yes. ASTM A333 / ASME SA333 Grade 6 pipe is supplied with heat treatment and Charpy impact results on EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 MTCs when required.

Export & documentation

We supply this product for domestic and export projects with mill test certificates (EN 10204 3.1 standard; 3.2 / TPI on request). Include destination, preferred Incoterms and any inspection body on the RFQ.
