Savoy Piping Inc. supplies ASME SA213 Grade T9 / ASTM A213 T9 seamless chrome moly tubes — the 9Cr-1Mo grade specified when heater and high-temperature exchanger tubes need stronger sulfidation and oxidation resistance than 5Cr material.
On ASME/IBR packages, buyers often write SA213 T9 and ask for Form III-C plus EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 MTCs. T9 is a deliberate chemistry choice for severe elevated-temperature process duty — not a substitute for CSEF T91.
Where SA213 T9 fits: severe refinery heater tubes, high-temperature process exchangers, and furnace tubing exposed to sulfur-bearing streams. Milder duties may stay on T5. Power steam tubing more often uses T11, T22 or T91.
Matching pipe: ASME SA335 P9. ASTM twin: ASTM A213 T9.
ASME SA213 Grade T9 is the ASME companion to ASTM A213 T9 — seamless ferritic alloy-steel tubing for boilers, superheaters and heat exchangers. Composition is approximately 9% chromium and 1% molybdenum — the tube counterpart to SA335 / A335 P9.
Classic T9 is traditional 9Cr-1Mo process/heater material. It is not the same as vanadium-niobium modified CSEF T91 used for high-creep steam tubes.

Classic T9 is traditional 9Cr-1Mo — not the same as CSEF T91. Use T9 for severe process/sulfidation duty; use T91 when creep-strength-enhanced modified 9Cr is required.

Standard Specification for Seamless Ferritic and Austenitic Alloy-Steel Boiler, Superheater, and Heat-Exchanger Tubes
1.1 This specification covers seamless ferritic and austenitic steel boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger tubes, designated Grades T91, TP304, etc. These steels are listed in Tables 1 and 2.
1.2 Grades containing the letter, H, in their designation, have requirements different from those of similar grades not containing the letter, H. These different requirements provide higher creep-rupture strength than normally achievable in similar grades without these different requirements.
1.3 The tubing sizes and thicknesses usually furnished to this specification are 1/8 in. [3.2 mm] in inside diameter to 5 in. [127 mm] in outside diameter and 0.015 to 0.500 in. [0.4 to 12.7 mm], inclusive, in minimum wall thickness or, if specified in the order, average Wall Thickness. Tubing having other diameters may be furnished, provided such Tubes comply with all other requirements of this specification.
1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. The inch-pound units shall apply unless the “M” designation of this specification is specified in the order.
TABLE 1 Chemical Composition Limits, %A, for Low Alloy SteelA Maximum, unless range or minimum is indicanted. Where ellipses (…) appear in this table, there is no requirement, and analysis for the element need not be determined or reported.
B It is permissible to order T2 and T12 with a sulfur content of 0.04 max. See 16.3.
C Alternatively, in lieu of this ratio minimum, the material shall have a minimum hardness of 275 HV in the hardened condition, defined as after austenitizing and cooling to room temperature but prior to tempering. Hardness testing shall be performed at mid-thickness of the product. Hardness test frequency shall be two samples of product per heat treatment lot and the hardness testing results shall be reported on the material test report.

ASME SA213 T9 (9Cr-1Mo) seamless tubes are used in high-temperature heaters, boilers and heat exchangers where higher chromium is needed for oxidation and sulfidation resistance, especially in severe refinery heater service.
No. Both are roughly 9% chromium alloys, but T91 is vanadium-niobium modified CSEF steel for high-creep steam service. Classic T9 is the traditional 9Cr-1Mo process grade.
Companion designations. ASME SA213 Grade T9 is often specified on ASME/IBR packages; ASTM A213 T9 is the ASTM counterpart. Confirm documentation on the PO.
T5 (5Cr-0.5Mo) covers many heater and exchanger duties. T9 (9Cr-1Mo) is selected when corrosion/sulfidation risk is higher and the design calls for more chromium. Follow the project corrosion class.
