A213 is a tube specification (boiler / superheater / heat-exchanger), not a piping specification. Buyers usually order by OD and wall (minimum or average wall), ask for the correct heat-treatment condition, and — on Indian boiler jobs — confirm whether SA213 T5 with IBR Form III-C is required alongside the mill test certificate.

Where T5 fits: refinery and petrochemical heater tubes, high-temperature heat exchangers, and selected boiler sections where 5% chromium improves scale and sulfidation resistance. For more aggressive sulfur service, projects often move to T9. For power-plant steam tubes at moderate temperatures, T11 and T22 are more common.

Matching pipe grade for headers and connecting piping is typically ASTM A335 P5. We also supply T9, T11, T22 and T91 with EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 MTCs and third-party inspection on request.

What is ASTM A213 T5 tube?

ASTM A213 / ASME SA213 Grade T5 is a seamless ferritic alloy-steel tube for boiler, superheater and heat-exchanger service. Chemistry is built around roughly 5% chromium and 0.5% molybdenum — the tube counterpart to chrome moly pipe grade P5.

Chromium improves high-temperature oxidation and sulfidation resistance; molybdenum supports elevated-temperature strength. Tubes are furnished seamless (hot-finished or cold-drawn) and must meet the tensile, hardness and heat-treatment rules in A213/SA213.

Typical ordering discussion covers OD, minimum vs average wall, length, end finish, heat treatment, hydrostatic or NDE options, and documentation. Do not substitute structural tubing or carbon boiler tube where the piping class calls for T5.

T5 vs T9 vs T11 — quick buyer guidance

Choose T5 for many heater and exchanger duties needing 5Cr performance. Step up to T9 when sulfidation / oxidation risk justifies 9Cr-1Mo. Use T11 / T22 for most power-plant boiler and superheater chrome moly tube classes. For CSEF supercritical steam tubes, look at T91.

Is ASTM A213 T5 the same as ASME SA213 T5?

What is the difference between T5 tube and P5 pipe?
